Jamie Robinson, current principal at Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary, has been named principal of Boerne ISD’s new Van Raub Elementary School.

Robinson’s appointment was approved Monday night by the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees.  He will assume his new role in January and begin the process of hiring teachers and staff for the new elementary school.  A selection committee that included parents and staff from Kendall Elementary, parents and staff from Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary, and district administrators recommended Robinson for the position.

Van Raub is the first of three new schools in the district approved by voters in the 2016 bond.  The campus, located on Dietz Elkhorn Road in the southern part of the district, will open August 2018.  The search for a new principal at Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary will begin immediately.

“Mr. Robinson has demonstrated his leadership abilities since arriving in the district as an assistant principal,” said Boerne ISD superintendent Tommy Price.  “He has been an exemplary leader at Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary.  That kind of leadership, experience and vision is required when opening a new campus.  Mr. Robinson is abundantly qualified to address the challenges that come with the opening of a new school.

“I am committed to identifying someone equally qualified and equally passionate about education to assume the leadership role at Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary.  That person will step onto a vibrant campus of outstanding students, extraordinary educators and extremely supportive families.”

Robinson was named principal at Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary in 2016 after serving a year as assistant principal for the school.  Prior to that, he serve as an assistant principal in San Antonio’s North East ISD.  The San Angelo native taught at the elementary level for 10 years in his hometown before accepting his first job in educational administration in San Angelo ISD.

Robinson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Angelo State University.

“The old German school house that today sits on the campus is a reminder of the historic Van Raub community that once prospered in this area,” Robinson said.  “We now have the opportunity to build a new Van Raub community – a learning community – and capture that history while also developing the next great school in Texas.  I think that can happen here and that is very exciting.

“The first students and families of Van Raub Elementary will be the start of something great.  Innovation and excitement are going to come together to foster learning.  The neighborhoods in this part of our district are going to benefit from two great schools – Fair Oaks Ranch and Van Raub.”

Van Raub Elementary is one of the major projects funded by Boerne ISD’s 2016 bond.  Funds in that bond also are supporting construction of Dr. Ferdinand L. Herff Elementary and Capt. Mark Tyler Voss Middle School, which will open Fall 2019.

The $28.5 million Van Raub school is being constructed on a 20-acre site purchased by the district years ago in northern Bexar County.  The new school is patterned after Fabra Elementary School, which opened August 2016, featuring a “neighborhood” concept that clusters classrooms around a shared open space for collaborative learning.  When it opens in August 2018, Van Raub will be the educational home of almost 700 students, kindergarten through 5th grade.
