With the Champion Chargers' 62-47 victory over Wimberley on Friday, Dec. 8, in the Canyon Lake tournament, coach Stan Leech has achieved career win No. 800.

Leech, who has coached in Boerne ISD for 31-plus seasons, is in his 10th season of coaching the Chargers.  He has been at the helm of Chargers basketball since the school opened in 2008.

Prior to joining Champion, Leech coached the Boerne Greyhounds for 22 seasons.  His high school coaching career began in 1984 as coach of Yorktown High School.

Leech joins an elite list of San Antonio-area coaches who have achieved the milestone victory.  Three retired coaches - Charlie Boggess (915), Wayne Dickey (837) and Joe Cortez (823) - previously topped the 800-win mark.

Included in the wins throughout the years, Leech's teams have earned 12 district championships, 18 bi-district titles, 10 area championships, two regional crowns, one state semi-final championship and one state finals appearance.

Career Coaching Record

The community will have the opportunity to celebrate coach Leech's achievement on Friday, Dec. 15.  Prior to the 8 p.m. tip-off of the Champion-Uvalde game, his career milestone will be commemorated.

Leech remembers to the very day Victory No. 1 in his string of 800 wins: a win for his Yorktown Wildcats over Nixon-Smiley on November 17, 1984.  It is safe to assume Victory No. 800 will be a treasured memory for a long time, too.
