Gifted and Talented Program

Mission

Boerne ISD recognizes the right of all children to a challenging instructional program, which provides opportunities for the full development of their capabilities, talents and gifts.  In Boerne ISD, all schools follow BISD Board Policy to identify students as gifted in the areas of Language Arts/Social Studies and/or Math/Science.   Full Mission Statement

Program Description

Elementary G/T students are cluster-grouped into a trained teacher’s classroom where a differentiated curriculum is provided and attend a pull-out program in the Challenge Lab for 90-120 minutes a week.  Secondary G/T students are served through Advanced Placement (AP) and Pre-AP courses in the core areas.  Middle School students have the option of attending a problem-solving class once a week during Activity Period.  High school junior and senior students may also participate in an Independent Study Mentorship program. Identification

Students are nominated for screening for the G/T Program each spring. Identification criteria include test scores, student product ratings, and teacher ratings.   Students who meet the district standard on 3 of the 5 criteria area identified as gifted.  Students who meet the district standard on 2 criteria and have a 3rd close score are selected for the Talent Pool, which is a one-year placement.
