On Friday, October 11, Curington Elementary School first grade teacher Irasema Arizpe learned that she had been named Region 20 Dual Language Teacher of the Year, an honor that holds deep personal meaning for her.
“Teaching is my passion,” Mrs. Arizpe says, “From the time I was young, I heard stories from my parents about teaching. I watched them do their lesson plans, conference with their students’ parents and love their students.
“I have had the very best teachers – my parents – serve as my examples. I do my very best daily because I dedicate my teaching gifts and my life to them.”
The honor is made all the more special to Mrs. Arizpe due to its timing. She had decided only days before the deadline to submit her name for consideration, entering the category that recognizes experienced teachers in grades PreK-1. Region 20 includes more than 50 neighboring school districts and there were a number of solid entries in the category.
